Aquatics Coordinator YMCA of Middle Tennessee 8,280 reviews – United States $11.60 – $13.05 an hour – Part-timeConsistent with the Christian mission and Hope for Life Vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator will be responsible for the development, marketing, planning, implementation, and supervision of aquatic programming. Duties and Responsibilities: Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and ResponsibilityOrganize, plan, schedule, promote and coordinate all aquatic programming; assist with the development and implementation of new aquatic programmingAssist in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating aquatics staff. Staff all programs appropriately and train all staff in emergency procedures, incident reporting and first aidAcquire and maintain all required YMCA aquatic certifications. Ensure all aquatics staff acquire and maintain necessary certificationsLifeguard and lead programs in support of staff when necessary; provide fun, supportive work environment with high staff morale and proper recognitionManage all necessary information and records for the development of programs, program participants and program evaluationsMaintain a clean and safe pool environment; maintain all necessary records for the safe operation of the pool; oversee the proper chemistry and pool testing procedures and ensure proper chemical balancesAssist with construction – and work within guidelines – of operating budget for aquatic departmentParticipate in the annual We Build People campaignEducation / Experience Required: Minimum 18 years of age; high school diploma or equivalentMinimum 1,600 hours lifeguarding experience and minimum four years’ experience in direct teaching of aquatic programsExperience with pool operations and testing pool chemicals; Pool Operator certification preferredCertifications Required: Pre-hire: complete YMCA of Middle TN employment application, new hire packet, Redwoods Child Abuse Detection/Prevention and Bloodborne Pathogens training.Before first shift: successfully complete Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program and obtain/ maintain Ellis & Associates lifeguard licenseWithin six months of hire: YMCA P.O.O.L./CPOWithin 12 months of hire: successfully complete Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program Instructor Training and obtain/maintain Ellis & Associates Instructor/Instructor Trainer licenseKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: This individual must have skills necessary to develop and carry out a wide variety of aquatic programs, meeting the needs of people of all ages from babies through seniors. S/he must have a high level of organization to successfully manage aquatic programs, and the ability to build and manage a team of aquatics professionals. S/he must have the ability to positively impact the quality of this service area with high standard, affordable programming conducted by properly guided and motivated staff. S/he must ensure that all programming meets YMCA of Middle TN Aquatic Standards and philosophy, incorporating a values component, all in a safe, supportive environment. This position requires an individual with the ability to remain alert, with no lapses in concentration; to sit for extended periods, including in an elevated chair; to move to various locations, including in and around an elevated chair; to communicate verbally, projecting voice across distances. S/he should be able to hear noises and see distress signals. S/he must be able to communicate swiftly and effectively with emergency personnel over the telephone and in person. S/he must have the ability and knowledge to work with hazardous chemicals such as chlorine, Muriatic/hydrochloric acid, soda ash, chemical reagents, disinfectants, virucidal solutions, and other cleaning agents. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, required. Physical Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; see; talk or hear; taste or smell. S/he must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. S/he may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. S/he must be able to walk and stand in an indoor or outdoor environment for extended periods of time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
