Aquatics Director Allentown YMCA & YWCA 10,351 reviews – Allentown, PA Full-time, Part-timePOSITION SUMMARY: Develops, organizes and implements and manages high quality, safe, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs as well as is an integral team member for the overall branch operation. Leads a team of 20 part time lifeguards and instructors.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Directs and supervises aquatics program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new aquatics program activities and expands aquatics programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local regulations and ensures all YMCA health and safety regulations are strictly followed.Conducts safety checks on pool, whirlpool, steam room and saunas, reporting any issues to the Maintenance Director. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and bather numbers.Manage risk management responsibilities including maintaining the Allentown YMCA’s Risk Management Policy and implement risk management trainings to staff.Secures and schedules pool facilities, pool birthday parties and pool rentals or special events.Conducts lifeguarding trainings (includes blood borne, CPR, AED, Oxygen), swim instruction trainings, First Aid and CPR trainings.Creates and schedules facility lifeguards, group swim classes, private and semi-private swim lessons, and staff meetings.Provides a combine minimum of 10 hours weekly of swim instruction and lifeguarding.Oversee Swim Team Coach and Schedules, providing a progressive curriculum to support growth in the program.Maintain established collaborative relationships with community organizations, and develop new relationships to helps support the advancement of the mission.Assists in the marketing and distribution of aquatics program information.Responsible for submitting accurate payroll information in a timely manner.Monitors aquatics program budget to meet fiscal objectives.Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.Assists with Program and Swim Team Committee Meetings.Compiles program statistics such as volunteer reports, participant feedback reports and other reports and data as needed. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in recreation, human services, social services, business or equivalent.One to two year’s related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor.Minimum age requirement, 21 years old.Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching swim lessons, lifeguarding or related experience.Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR for the Professional Rescuer; First Aid; AED; Oxygen Administration, Blood borne Pathogens; Pool Operator Certification.Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications; lifeguard training, water safety instructor training, Listen First within the first 90 days of employment.
