Part-timeThis classification has been designated as a non-classified, non-merit system, at-will position. The City of Mesa is currently recruiting Aquatics Head Coaches for the Summer Season as well as year round opportunities. The Summer Season runs from April 2017 through September 2017. Schedules vary from 25 – 38 hours per week, depending on business needs. As an Aquatics Head Coach you will coach and train swim teams, synchro teams, dive teams, water polo teams, or Junior Lifeguard Volunteer programs. Responsibilities include organizing daily practices, competitive matches, and weekly in-service trainings. You will develop the skills of athletes and volunteers, supervise participants, take corrective action as needed, recruit volunteers and assign them to work matches, meets, and events. Other duties include checking water chemistry and cashiering. You may be scheduled for lifeguard and/or swim lesson instructor assignments. Applications must be received online by midnight, Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Qualified applicants must attend a skills test Saturday, March 25 to be considered for a position. You will be notified whether you qualify and if so you will be provided with details regarding the skills test. The test will include an assessment of various Lifeguard skills, fitness level, and swimming stroke techniques, as well as an oral interview. Only one test date will be offered. Applicants must successfully complete the skills test in order to be considered for employment. Additional opportunities may arise throughout the Season. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Employee Values : All employees of the City of Mesa are expected to uphold and exhibit the City’s shared employee values of Knowledge, Respect, and Integrity. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Lifeguard Training (LGT) requires individuals to be at least 15 years of age, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Lifeguard Certification, and a minimum of three months’ experience as a participant or coach in competitive swimming, synchronized swimming, diving, or water polo. Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License by hire date (by assignment). Substance Abuse Testing: Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this classification, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures. Preferred/Desirable Qualifications: Graduation from high school or GED and Water Safety Instructor certification is preferred. Some (1 – 2 seasons) experience as a Lifeguard is desirable.? Additional Information: Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification classes are offered by the City of Mesa beginning in February. A skills test review is offered in March. Vendor information will be made available. Uniform shirts will be provided by the City of Mesa. Visible tattoos are acceptable unless they contain inappropriate lettering or images such as nudity or offensive language. Accessories are limited to post earrings only.
