It’s among the largest triathlon teams in the nation, and one of the most decorated collegiate triathlon teams in history. Since 1989, the team has grown to over 200 members, including National Champions and Olympic hopefuls. The team is also comprised of first-time swimmers, cyclists, and runners. The program continues to have the largest collegiate team throughout the collegiate racing circuit. Cal Triathlon is open to all skill levels and abilities and highly encourages beginners to come out to practice and compete. Responsibilities The Assistant Head Coach will be responsible for attending practices and competitions, in addition to planning workouts and season goals with the athletes and team. Specific responsibilities will include: • Attending Monday Trainer, Thursday Track, Sunday Swim Practices • Running well-structured practices • Analyzing performance and instructing athletes in skills, goals, and strategies in preparation for and during competition • Attending races (both local and out-of-state/area) • Keeping contact with players and club officers • Complying with USA Triathlon, UC Berkeley and Cal Sport Clubs regulations • Maintaining a professional and positive presence in the triathlon community Required Qualifications • Proven record of competitive success at high school or collegiate level • Strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of human behavior • Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes • Must be available to plan and oversee a minimum of three (3) training sessions per week during the academic year and minimum of two (2) training sessions per week during the summer months (June – August) • Ability to travel to 85% of competition. • Successful background check clearance • American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification (Must be obtained within 30 days of employment) Preferred Qualifications • Minimum 5 years coaching experience in sport of triathlon • Combined experience competing competitively in triathlons at either the collegiate level or professionally • Possess a working knowledge of all the equipment necessary for and particular to the sport of triathlon. Most importantly, possess experience with and knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and daily operation of bicycles and bicycle mechanics. • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of a holistic collegiate experience with focus on academic excellence How to Apply Cover letter and resume required.
