Assistant Swim Coach Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center – La Jolla, CA $13 an hour – Part-timeLawrence Family Jewish Community Center Barracudas Assistant Coach Pay Rate: $12-$14 Hourly Position Summary:Under the direction of the JCC Swim Team Head Coach, the Swim Team Assistant Coach assists in developing, organizing and implementing the JCC Barracuda Swim Team. Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants in accordance with JCC policies and procedures and creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.
Essential Duties:Assists in organizing and administering all assigned coaching responsibilities, including daily practices, recruiting, record keeping and scheduling. Develops positive relationships with team members, and coaches. Provides motivational support and guidance. Increases team member awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors and LFJCC values.Conducts evaluations and recruits prospective members and provides information about LFJCC membership and swim team fee structure.Attends swim meets and swim team functions as agreed upon with the Head Coach; accountable for discipline and conduct of team members at these events.In charge of running practice sessions in the absence of the Head Coach.
Other Duties:Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Follows all LFJCC policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures.Completes incident and accident reports if necessary.Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.Submits all private lesson schedules and payments to the Asst. Aquatics Director. Coach must keep lesson log. The Asst. Aquatics Director must approve the lessons before-hand.Qualifications:High School Diploma or GEDMust be 18 years or olderCurrent Certificates required – American Red Cross CPR/AED, American Red Cross Coaches Safety Training or equivalent.USA Swimming Coach -strongly desirableNote: All Certificates Must be submitted along with applicants resume, front and back images are required of each document.A minimum of 1 year coaching experienceDemonstrate knowledge of sound competitive swimming skills, and the ability to implement and teach these skills in a positive, healthy manner.Physical Demands :Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.Ability to see and hear individuals and alarms in pool/pool area.Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
REQUIRED EXAMINATIONS AND INVESTIGATION PROCESSApplication Review: Applications will be reviewed and ranked in comparison to other individuals that are applying for the position. Qualified individuals will be invited to the next step, Aquatics Department Director oral interview and performance test.Oral Examination: Candidates, who successfully pass the application review process, will take the Aquatics Director’s oral examination.Performance testing: After the oral examination, all applicants must pass a pass/fail performance test. Testing will be administered to all qualified applicants and shall include the following factors: assisting with running a full day of practice sessions for 10 & under age groups.Personal History Background Investigation: Personal and employment references will be contacted; background investigations will include applicant’s credit history, driving and criminal background.Job Type: Part-timeSalary: $13.00 /hourRequired education:High school or equivalentRequired experience:coaching: 1 year
