Backlash over ‘self-rescue’ swimming classes for toddlers | News

“Drown-proof” swimming classes involving toddlers being dropped into water have been condemned as harmful and distressing by industry leaders.Swimming organisations including Puddle Ducks, Turtle Tots, Birthlight and Water Babies as well as Swim England and the Royal Life Saving Society UK have united in a bid to warn parents against survival classes that aim to teach children to “self-rescue”.Videos made in America and uploaded to YouTube, which critics say depict distressed toddlers being taught drown-proofing methods, have been widely shared on the internet.
