It is good to have established a committee to facilitate construction of an aquatic center here in Milledgeville/Baldwin, but how long will this take? As we are aware there have been several drownings of young people in this county since the swimming pool was closed. An aquatic center sounds grand but I feel a decent place to learn with supervision on how to swim would be great for the youth. The cost for such a center would have to come from some place. We have passed several SPLOSTs and a center was not included in appropriating the funds so where would the funds for such an endeavor come? We could not find monies to make the necessary repairs needed for the swimming pool we had, how can we afford to build an aquatic center?I feel that we need to get a swimming pool now because we may be able to prevent further loss of young lives. The committee is just to facilitate a construction with no idea when it will begin. It will be the decision of our elected officials who make this a reality. Let’s make the construction of a swimming pool top of the agenda and an aquatic center later. We don’t need the unforeseeable future to do the right thing for our youth.
