Head Coach of Competitive Swimming YMCA of Greater Omaha – Council Bluffs, IA $15 – $18 an hour – Part-time
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Head Coach of Competitive Swimming is responsible for developing a fun and educational environment where competitive swimmers thrive in competition. To do this s/he will supervise staff, plan, organize and deliver a quality competitive swimming experience. *Postition averages 15hr a week on non swim meet weeks, averages 25-29 hours a week on swim meet weeks. * Must be available nights and weekends *Starting pay $15/hr up to $18/hr depending on experience Responsibilities:Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates swim team staff.Develops character in all participants while helping them meet their goals by planning and facilitating practices, clinics and parent meetings focused on age group and developmental levels.Plans and facilitates tryouts, training, meet entries and facilitation.Supports team at regular season and championship meets and assigns additional staff.Maintains a safe and fun environment in all assigned facilities during meetings practices and meets.Manages all aspects of program budget and coordinates with supervisor as needed.Spreads the word about YMCA Competitive Swimming through collaboration with association marketing team and branch staff. Manages social media outlets, website informationAssures compliance with rules, standards, records and guidelines set forth by YMCA of the USA, USA Swimming, and that all aquatic safety procedures are followed. Assure compliance with state and local regulations from aquatic and swimming governing bodies.Develops committed volunteers by managing Parent Advisory Council with a goal of successful fundraising, meet facilitation and team recruitment.Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent preferred.At least 5 years as a registered USA and/or YMCA Swimming coach with three years as a head coach.Minimum USA Swimming certified and American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Level 2 certification or equivalent preferred. YMCA certification required by start date.Current Lifeguard certification required (if not current, must complete within 30 days of hire)Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check.
