HEAD COACH, SWIM TEAM YMCA of Douglas County – Roseburg, OR 97471 $15 an hour – Part-timeGeneral Function:Under the direction of the Branch Director, the Swim Coach is responsible for the management of the swim team in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth with the USA Swimming, YMCA swimming and YMCA of Douglas County. Possess knowledge of competitive swimming, and the ability to coach all ages. Is expected to form positive relationships, mentor as appropriate, and effectively communicate with other coaching staff, swim team members, and swim team parents.Focus is first and foremost on the development of healthy, confident, values­ centered individuals where training and competition are the vehicles by which this development occurs. Must provide continual guidance and growth and produce the highest attainable level of excellence in individual and team performance for the YMCA Swim Team Program. Foster a positive environment that promotes the YMCA philosophy.Primary ResponsibilitiesSupervise all coaches and volunteers associated with the swim team.Demonstrate knowledge of coaching skills and teamwork and lead swimmers through skillCreate an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the swimmers, while ensuring fair practice and swim meetManage all aspects of swimmer supervision: Swimmers must be supervised at all times, including pre/post practice, during practice and any swim meet.Notify swimmers of any potential risk factors and protect them from potentialKnow and understand emergency Be aware of any/all medical conditions of all swimmers on team and have medical/emergency cards at hand at all times.Schedule swim meets and coordinate logistics (i.e., work with parent advisory committee in securing volunteers to run meets, ).Must supervise entire swim meet, including warm-ups, events, and ensuring the safety of the Will be required to attend other meets as appropriate by the number of qualifying swimmers.Ensure all equipment used during practice and/or swim meets is storedResponsible for coordinating times for swim practice schedules with the Aquatic Director that will not conflict with memberAssumes responsibility for the events and swimmers preceding and immediately following each practice orTeaches and models the values of respect, honesty, responsibility and caring to all members of the swim team and to build a healthy, competitive swimQualifications, Education, and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent workSwim coachingExperience with Team Unify and Meet Manager software helpful.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all age levels and parents.Proven knowledge and success as a swim coach.Certifications:Certification in CPR, AED, and First (Or obtained within 30 days of employment).YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or Red Cross WSI certification a plus.Oregon swimming USA swimming coach certification (Obtained upon employment).Schedule of Hours:Mon – Fri 3:00 – 6:30 pmAdmin 5 hrs/wkMeets As ScheduledSalary: Hourly – $15/hrBenefits and Conditions:YMCA membership, cell phone allowance, perdiem travel expenses for away meets.All other benefits such as sick days and YMCA retirement fund are based on hours worked.
