This includes age group swimming, masters swimming, camps and clinics and meet planning. The Head Coach will manage overall operations of the competitive swim team including: Coaching, Staffing, Budgeting, Practice & Meet Scheduling, Recruit and advise parent volunteer group. Provide leadership to 1 full time and 12 part time staff and on average 170 swimmers in all aspects of the team function. Plan and execute 2-4 home swim meets with assistance from the parent volunteer group. Set the vision and expectations while managing the daily responsibilities related to competitive swimming. Offering a high quality competitive swimming program that exemplifies the mission and goals of the YMCA. Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Health, Physical Education or related field preferred. Must have 5 years’ experience of coaching and leadership role in competitive swimming. Certification requirements or willing to complete in first year: YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming, USA Swimming Certifications/Trainings, ASCA membership with level 3 certification, CPR/AED/First Aid, Lifeguard Certification Must possess excellent communication, supervisory, and relationship building skills Essential Functions 1. Manage the overall competitive swim team program to include: budgeting, scheduling, staff, practices, participants, growth, and development of program. 2. Recruit, hire, supervise, manage, train, and appraise the assistant swim coaches. 3. Provide leadership to all swim team and staff members at practice, during meets and office hours. 4. Build and nurture relationships with staff, swimmers, parents, volunteers, other area coaches, and key stakeholders. 5. Ensure daily workouts are available and meet standards for all swim team members to maximize the swimmer potential and utilize allotted practice time. 6. Meet with the Associate Executive Director regularly to assess team and plan accordingly. 7. Request and obtain approval for pool usage from Aquatics Directors at each Y branch. 8. Coordinate the use of outside facilities for meets or practice. 9. Work with Assoicate Executive Director in developing and adhering to an annual swim team budget. 10. Communicate weekly with swim team members through newsletters, website, etc. 11. Actively recruit new members to the team. 12. Coordinate and be responsible for proper and timely meet information (meet entries, results, and billing). 13. Work with the staff, volunteers and participants to coordinate swim meets. 14. Be available on deck for all Championship swim meets. 15. Act as a resource and liaison for the swim team, staff, parents, volunteers, other coaches, and key stakeholders. 16. Be available to parents to address their concerns and questions regarding the swim team and their children. 17. Work with the Membership/Marketing staff in promoting swim team and community relations. Prepare news releases, program information, flyers and other informational material to promote and provide information for programs. 18. Hold appropriate office hours throughout the week, which coincide with normal business hours, meet with staff regularly and conduct quarterly meetings. 19. See to the certification and qualification of all personnel in these areas to the safe operation of all equipment utilized and assure that employees attend the required training sessions. 20. Be responsible for assisting with the YMCA’s annual sponsored campaigns and other fund raising pertinent with being a YMCA employee. 21. Know and follow the established human resources and business procedures of the association. 22. Total integration of the swim team and it’s functions into the YMCA as a whole. 23. Sound administration of the department evident in good public relations, sound fiscal position, complete and up-to-date records as required. 24. Display and exemplify the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of the job performance and in relationships with others. 25.
