Head Swim Team Coach South Sound YMCA – Olympia, WA 98501 Part-timeHead Swim Team CoachPosition: Head Swim Team CoachDepartment: BriggsReports To: Aquatics DirectorCompensation : 11.65-16.20Work Schedule: Part-timePOSITION SUMMARY:The Head swim team coach is responsible for the operation of the Swim Team program in a manner that provides an inclusive, supportive atmosphere that encourages personal growth and achievement. Provide for safety of the participants and promote the goals and the mission of the YMCA.The mission of the South Sound YMCA is to provide youth and our community an affordable and accessible resource for the positive development of spirit, mind, and body through recreational, health, and leadership programs. Our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child, and when a community comes together for the common good.REQUIREMENTS:To serve in this position, the incumbent should have the appropriate education and experience to successfully coach and manage a competitive swim team program. Education should include USSA, YMCA, or Red Cross Coaches certificate or equivalent; First aid and CPR/AED certifications, knowledge and understanding of age appropriate developmental issues, training guidelines and USSA rules and regulations for competitive swimming. Experience should include six months as a coach or assistant coach; one or more years of aquatic and competitive sports background; and an understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy, mission, and goals of the YMCA.RESPONSIBILITIESProgramBe a positive role model.Create a Swim Team with an inclusive atmosphere fostering good sportsmanship.Design and coordinate swim team workouts appropriate for the varied levels of ability. Include play and fun activities.Encourage personal and team achievement and involvement.Assist in recruiting and retaining swim team staff. Initiate and assist swim team parents with team building activities outside the swimming pool (including fund raising activities).Keep Aquatic Director informed about team progress and problems.Assist in program expansion and promotion.Coordinate swim meets (with parent and volunteer assistance)Assist in the development and administration of the program budget.Inform the Aquatic Director of any planned, major program changes.Follow Aquatic Department Policies regarding Leave Requests.Work within the allotted hours designated for this position unless prior written approval is received.StaffCoordinate Junior and Novice workouts providing competent coaching/instructionObserve the performance of all swim team assistants/volunteers.Recommend the termination of staff when appropriate.Regularly review and update program materials.Maintain current certifications for self and any assistants.Conduct self in a professional manner (including attire/personal grooming) during practices and when off premises while representing the YMCA.AdministrativeProvide Member Service Staff and Program staff with written assignments and schedules as needed.Verify swimmer registration monthly.Report accidents, injuries and incidents.Attend Association, Departmental and PSSA League meetings and trainings.Assist in the preparation and administration of program budgets.Track swim team registration and payment schedule as needed.FacilityCoordinate the setup and clean up of facilities for practices and meets.Ensure all equipment is used and stored properlySubmit requests for equipment and facility maintenance or repair as needed.AssociationObtain additional knowledge through attendance at workshops.Demonstrate a high commitment to member service and interdepartmental communicationsAssist with other projects and/or programs as needed.WHY WORK FOR THE Y?We offer an exciting, fun, inclusive, growth oriented work environment with competitive compensation, complimentary Y membership and staff discounts.Additionally, by working for the Y, you will see first-hand how your efforts positively affect change and strengthen our community.
