American Red Cross Swimming Instructor

Salary:$11.75 – $14.57 Hourly
Provide safe and quality instruction in area of aquatics for various age groups in the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

Teach class content appropriate to the course description, level and within certification guidelines; monitor participants and their ability to participate; provide a safe environment for all participants; complete any necessary reports and forms, i.e., Course Records, Attendance Records, Progress Reports, etc; lifeguard duties may be included; responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute upon their absence. Perform related work as required and assigned.

Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and well-defined standard practices requiring some authority to select which methods are applicable in any given situation. Virtually all work is reviewed regularly while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and quality. Matters not specifically covered in operating instructions are reviewed with the supervisor.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Knowledge – Thorough knowledge of departmental rules and regulations; principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; working knowledge of rules, strategies, and skills; general knowledge of the cardiovascular system and human anatomy; organizational procedures.

Skills – Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.

Abilities – Instruct and control large groups of people; follow instructions; communicate effectively to the participants when teaching; analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper courses of action to be taken; analyze and correct facility safety hazards; write reports as necessary; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.

Training – No specific requirement.

Experience – Previous instructional experience preferred;
any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
