Job Description
Summary:
This is a full-time position with the responsibility of providing assistance to the Aquatics Supervisor & Aquatics Programmer – in the in the planning, coordinating, and supervising of the department’s aquatic programs and staff at a municipal indoor swimming pool. This position serves as an on-deck supervisor managing the pool operations and programs during assigned shift(s).
Assist in coordinating a progressive swim program including marketing, training, evaluation of instructors and daily communication. Prepare lesson schedules for public, assign instructors to appropriate levels, open and close classes based on demand and instructor availability.
Monitor and oversee activities in swimming pool area to prevent drowning, injuries or accidents. Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning, assist any other user in distressful situations and administer first aid when necessary. Complete timely incident, accident and rescue reports ensuring they are legible and factual.
Assist with supervision of recreation personnel to include: providing on-deck supervision for instructors, lifeguards and fitness instructors as well as recruiting, recommendations for hiring, training, and evaluating staff. Complete documentation for recommending discipline.
Assist with program budget to meet cost recovery goals. Maintain inventory records of equipment and supplies.
Assist with planning, implementing, and supervising a Risk Management Program for facilities and programs to ensure a safe environment for staff, volunteers, and participants.
Review, evaluate, and implement appropriate rules and procedures to maintain safe standards for pool operations.
Supervise staff and handle customer concerns.
Assist with scheduling, planning and conducting in-service training, audits and observations of lifeguards.
Assist with scheduling of lifeguards and prepares holiday and special lifeguarding schedules.
Monitor and repair lifeguarding rescue equipment, first aid supplies and equipment needed for aquatic classes.
Review records for completeness, evaluates and maintains records.
Review rescue, incident, injury, and weekly reports for all swim and drop-in activities.
Supervise and instruct swimming classes, water fitness classes and lifeguard as assigned/needed.
Lead and train aquatic staff in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens and Customer Service topics.
Administer First Aid and CPR and perform in water rescues when needed.
Attend and lead all aquatic in-services and trainings; attend recreation department leadership meetings
Perform and teach emergency water rescues, including the ability to maintain Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor certifications or equivalent in a nationally recognized program and listed in the State of Washington Water Recreation Facilities Codes such as the American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis and Associates or StarGuard.
Ability to set and meet deadlines, post staff and public schedules, review staff and turn in written assignments in a timely manner.

Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High school diploma or GED.
Age 21 or older.
Degree in Recreation, Education or related field is desirable. (Substitution of years of experience for years in college is permitted)
Minimum of two years’ experience in developing, scheduling and coordinating highlevel aquatic programming.
One year of supervising lifeguards and swimming instructors is preferred.
Three years’ experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
Possession of a current Lifeguard Certification and CPR/AED For the Professional Rescuer & First Aid Certification in a nationally recognized program and listed in the State of Washington Water Recreation Facilities Codes such as the American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis and Associates or StarGuard.
Acquire Lifeguard Instructor Certification within six months of hire. (American Red Cross is preferred.)
Aquatic Facility Operator certification or an equivalent is desired.
Water Safety Instructor certification is desired (nationally recognized equivalents may be substituted). Certificates must be maintained.
Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license (or be able to attain at time of appointment) and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier. Must pass a thorough background investigation.
Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act. COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: A candidate selected and offered the job must demonstrate proof of vaccination against Covid-19.
Compensation: Hourly rate: $21.69 – $27.09.

Eight (8) hours of paid vacation per month. This accrual increases over time.
Twelve (12) days of annual sick leave accrual.
Twelve (12) paid holidays per year, including one personal or “floating holiday.”
