Aquatic Manager – YK Fitness Center, Bethel, Alaska

The YK Fitness Center in Bethel, AK, managed by HealthFitness, is hiring for a passionate Aquatic Manager who can make a difference in aquatic health and water safety for the community. In this position, you will be responsible for swimming and water safety instruction, administration of aquatic programs, supervision and training for swim instructors and lifeguards, youth program leadership, and assisting with the site’s aquatic maintenance and cleanliness. The ideal candidate is passionate about swimming and water safety, has a background in teaching swimming, lifeguarding, and water safety; has experience training and managing staff and maintaining an aquatic facility. 

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Develop and implement fun and engaging Learn-to-Swim, water safety, and aquatic health programs and activities for youth and adults.
• Provide dynamic training, management and supervision of Lifeguards and Aquatic Instructional Staff including developing and running in-service trainings and evaluations.
• Act as Lifeguard and Facility Supervisor.
• Assist with facility maintenance and cleaning.
• Other duties as needed/assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

• 3+ years of experience in Aquatics, preferably in a leadership capacity.
• Associate’s degree or equivalent Aquatic experience. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire).
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification (or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire)
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience developing, implementing and managing community activities and events.
• A positive role model for staff and patrons.
• Preferred certifications/experience includes one or more of the following: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT), Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification, experience teaching Water Exercise/Fitness classes.
