Job Summary:

The YMCA is looking for an energetic, outgoing team player to fill an immediate opening as a Sports & Aquatics Director for the Whitley County Family YMCA located in Columbia City, IN. The ideal candidate has a passion for connecting people to their healthy living goals. A successful director will be an organized, self-starter, effective listener, strong team builder and have a passion for serving others.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, implement, and promote dynamic new programs and expand existing programs to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  2. Recruit, develop, and supervise part-time staff and volunteers as needed.
  3. Compile program statistics and participant feedback in order to evaluate the effectiveness of programs offered.
  4. Make connections with members and guests and assist with inquiries.
  5. Expand and strengthen collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  6. Develop and monitor program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
  7. Coordinate the use of the facilities for program activities and events.
  8. Assist in YMCA fundraising activities, special events, marketing and distribution of program information where applicable.
  9. Serve as a member of Y management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.


  1. Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license.
  2. Current Lifeguard Certification; LGI Certification preferred.
  3. Two to three years of related experience; preferably within the YMCA.
  4. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred.  A combination of equivalent work experience, education and training may be considered.
  5. Previous experience building a team, running programs, managing aquatics facilities, and supervising others is preferred.
  6. Experience in, or ability to, expertly relate to diverse groups of people regardless of age, race, economic status, religion, or cultural differences.


Starting Salary Range: $35,600-39,500
