Aquatic Operations Coordinator

Salary –$19.72 – $28.59 Hourly

Under supervision of the Assistant Center Supervisor – Aquatics and related Aquatics management team, assists with performing a wide variety of administrative and operational duties associated with the management of the Athletic Center.  Coordinates and assists with supervision of the day to day operations of the Athletic Center.  Hire, train, supervise, motivate, schedule, and evaluate staff for the facility.  Maintain and secure facilities, develop and implement operational policies and procedures, and resolve customer complaints and issues.

The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.

Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties
Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in providing supervision and implementing administrative procedures for the operation of the facility.
  • Assists in evaluating and implementing policies and procedures that enhance the efficiency
    and productivity of the recreation center and its programs.
  • Interact with public and staff on a daily basis; answer inquires, resolve complaints, grievances, emergencies and assist patrons as needed.
  • Assists with maintaining and adjusting water chemistry to ensure proper levels are in place.
  • Assists in coordinating and implementing financial management functions.
  • Perform facility opening and/or closing procedures.
  • Administer maintenance and routine cleaning of aquatic facilities and equipment.
  • Enforces aquatic facility rules and regulations.
  • Assists in maintaining daily records and reports relating to attendance, chemicals, accidents/incidents, maintenance functions, etc.
  • May assist in hiring, counseling, discipline, evaluation and direction of assigned staff.

Other Important Duties:

  • May assist in developing, planning, and implementing special events.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
  • May be required to work extended hours, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • May assist with program registration as needed.

Job Requirements
Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of aquatic and recreational activities and their current rules, regulations and procedures including balancing of water chemistry.
  • Knowledge of the planning, administration and operation of aquatic, and recreational programs and facilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety rules and regulations to protect citizens and employees.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures pertaining to personnel management.
  • Knowledge of computers and software application.
  • Knowledge of pool maintenance and operation techniques.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • Skills in responding to emergency situations including safely rescuing drowning victims and administering CPR and First Aid.
  • Effective in oral and written communication with ability to explain and interpret rules, answer questions, and solicits participation in activities.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Recreation or related field.
  • Two years experience in the recreation field including 1 year supervisory experience.
  • Minimum two years experience as a Certified Lifeguard.
  • Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, AED and CPR for the professional rescuer certifications.
  • Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
  • Must possess current Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification or obtain within 6 months of employement.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen, criminal background, MVR and physical agility testing.
  • Must possess valid State of Texas Drivers License.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in office, fitness center, aquatic center and in outdoor aquatic environments.
  • May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision to monitor.
  • May be subject to exposure to air and water borne pathogens, body fluids, and infectious diseases when applying CPR, First Aid or cleaning facilities.
  • May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions and hazardous driving conditions.
  • May work extended hours, split shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • May involve extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as setting up and cleaning up program activities, opening and closing facility, meetings, and information booths at public events, or coordinating and managing activities at special events.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Equipment and Tools Utilized:

  • Equipment utilized includes personal computer, copier, calculator, fax machine and other standard office equipment, recreation equipment, cash register, pool safety and rescue equipment, pool filters, pumps, vacuum, sweepers, maintenance and cleaning equipment and department vehicles.
