Part Time Aquatics Specialist
This is a 29.9 hour a week position under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator. The Aquatics Specialist is responsible for assisting the Director of Aquatics and Aquatics Coordinator with overseeing the programming of Brodie Aquatics Center, Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion, and Central Campus Pool. This position will assist with over site , monitoring, and programming of the Learn to Swim Program. This position will assist with the over site, monitoring, and instruction of all American Red Cross Safety Courses. This position will serve as the direct supervisor to the Head Lifeguard positions. Additionally this position will coordinate all events within the overall mission of Duke Recreation and Physical Education.
- Lifeguard for 10 hours per week in either recreation facility.
- Create and implement successful aquatics programs for the Duke University communit
- Create and implement successful Learn to Swim Program for both Youth and Adult Swim programming.
- Assist with and instruct American Red Cross Safety Courses
- Direct supervisor and coordinator of Head Lifeguards
- Work with the Aquatics Coordinator on coordination of special event logistics and protocol
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma
- Previous management experiencea strong plus
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Data base experience preferred
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
- *Must possess a valid Lifeguard Certification
- Must posse ss a valid CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
- Must possess a valid WSI Certification
- Must possess a valid LGI Certification
Reports to the Aquatics Coordinator.Day-to-day functions are accomplished with minimal guidance or supervision in accordance with established policies and directives.
Overall guidanceis accomplished through supervisory conferences and the setting broad goals and objectives.
Assist with the supervision of swim instructor and lifeguard staff. Supervision of the head lifeguard staff with assistance from the Aquatics Coordinator.
Responsibility for Confidential Data
Has access to records which are confidential data and must be judicious in the discussion of information contained therein. Adheres to laws relating to the confidentiality of information on students.
Marginal Functions of the Job
The ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Requires evening and weekend work. Preforms other work related duties as directed.
Type and extent of instructions or directions normally given to the incumbent of this position by the immediate supervisor.
Acts independently without the need for daily supervision. Seeks guidance when necessary and must keep the supervisor informed of area operations and potential problems.
Work requires knowledge of basic mathematical, research and communications principles normally acquired through two years of postsecondary education.
Work generally requires two years of clerical or research experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OFRELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE to acquire skills in administrative or project research responsibilities as well as accepted office organization, communications and research practices. A bachelor’s degree in a field of study directly related to the specific position may be substituted for the education and experience requirement.
