Full Time Aquatics Specialist – Increased Starting Pay!

Description

Work in this class involves a combination of lifeguarding duties, coverage of the pool operations, Morrisville Aquatics and Fitness Center (MAFC) building coverage as well as swim and class instruction. Water safety and protection of patrons in an aquatic facility is of the utmost importance. Specific duties may vary in this class since there are multiple positions. Work is performed under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager or under the oversight of a Senior Aquatics Specialist.

Examples of Duties

  • Serves as a lifeguard for an indoor pool at the MAFC.
  • Oversees the pool area and all aquatics patrons.
  • Remains on pool deck during assigned shift and adheres to lifeguarding standards; monitors and corrects unsafe and/or aggressive behavior.
  • Teaches swim lessons and leads aquatics classes as needed.
  • Serves as duty officer to include opening, closing and center supervision in the absence of full-time supervisors.
  • Opens the pool each morning and closes the pool each night; performs required opening and closing duties.
  • Participates in aquatics operations and maintenance operations including daily monitoring of pool equipment and chemicals.
  • Documents chemical readings and maintenance issues and reports to the certified pool operator.
  • Maintains cleanliness of pool area, pump rooms, chemical storage rooms and locker room areas.
  • Communicates with facility patrons and answers questions.
  • Oversees as a lead worker over part-time employees.

Typical Qualifications

Any combination of education and training equivalent to graduation from high school.  Some experience in a combination of lifeguarding, swim instruction and supervision are required.

Supplemental Information

Work in this class is active and may in some circumstances require moderate to heavy lifting in performing the duties of a lifeguard.  In addition to potential heavy lifting significant physical agility is also necessary in order to be able to perform the duties of a lifeguard.  Visual acuity is required in order to lifeguard, view written material, and to view a computer screen.  The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Physical requirements can be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.
