Full Time Aquatics Specialist

Job Description


Assist in supervising daily Aquatic Center operations to include maintenance, programming, and personnel.

POSITION REPORTS TO: Aquatics Supervisor


JOB LOCATION: Community Center, 100 Wulfsohn Road, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601



HOURS: 40 Hours Per Week


  1. Assist Aquatics Supervisor with the development and implementation of ongoing and preventative maintenance of aquatics equipment, repairs, cleaning and other duties.
  2. Perform lifeguard duties as necessary to include but not limited to: monitor activities in and near the water through patron surveillance, prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors, recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies, administer first aid and CPR including using an AED, enforce facility rules and regulations and educate patrons.
  3. Complete water chemistry testing.
  4. Check and replenish pool chemicals as needed.
  5. Lead regular in-service training for lifeguard staff and provide feedback to lifeguards to improve techniques.
  6. Provide supervision and customer service during program start, runtime, and end as needed.
  7. Collect program feedback and evaluations.
  8. Assist patrons by performing safety orientations, administering swim tests, fitting lifejackets and other duties.
  9. Motivate lifeguards to perform secondary duties.
  10. Complete forms and reports.
  11. Perform opening duties, closing duties, and facility safety checks and inspections.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification or equivalent. If alternative certification is held, must become American Red Cross certified.
  • Minimum two years of lifeguarding experience.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) within 6 months of hire.



  • Possession of or ability to obtain Water Safety Instructor Certification within reasonable timeframe.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within reasonable timeframe.
