MIT Recreation, managed by HealthFitness is looking for an Assistant Director of Aquatics – Event & Lifeguard Management to work on campus in Cambridge, MA.  In this role, you will plan, organize, and manage all competitive aquatic events including NCAA Swim, Diving and Water Polo competitions, as well as state and regional age group and high school competitions.  You will also assume functional and administrative responsibility for the supervision and development of 2 Aquatic Supervisors and 40 Lifeguards and will oversee the programming and development of the American Red Cross Health and Safety offerings. Full-time hours will be determined based on program needs and will include working nights and significant work on weekends during events. Base schedule Monday – Friday 10:00am – 6:00pm

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Direct, manage, mentor and evaluate FT Aquatic Supervisors. Recruit, hire, train, mentor, schedule and supervise all Lifeguards to ensure safety and the quality of programs, practices and events.
  • Manage the operations of all special events sponsored by the Aquatics Department (including varsity, club, outside rental groups). This includes preparing and managing event budgets, organizing equipment, event set-up/breakdown, scheduling event support, and serving as onsite event manager.
  • Plan, promote, and manage of all American Red Cross Training programs including expanding existing program offerings and other outreach efforts.
  • Act as a liaison between the Aquatic Director and Lifeguards.
  • Attend administrative staff meetings.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

What you’ll provide:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of prior management experience working in aquatics, recreation, athletics, physical education or related field.
  • American Red Cross certifications: CPR for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard.
  • Ideal candidates will also have experience managing various aquatic events and technical knowledge of both Hy-Tek Meet Manager and Colorado Timing Systems products and/or and Lifeguard Instructor, Certified Pool Operator (CPO), SCUBA, and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications.
  • This client site requires full COVID-19 and vaccination & booster as an essential job function.
