Seasonal Assistant Varsity Girls Swimming Coach

The Mission Viejo Diablos Girls Swim Team is located in Mission Viejo, CA, and is a CIF Division I team in the Southern Section of CIF. The Diablos are seeking an Assistant Varsity Girls Swimming Coach. The successful candidate will demonstrate a positive attitude and effective teaching, motivation, and communication skills. The successful candidate will work well with athletes, parents, staff members, consultants, and administration.


The successful candidate must possess, or obtain prior to the start of employment, all credentials required by NFHS, CIF, and the Saddleback Valley School District (SVUSD). These include: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, NFHS Concussion in Sports Training, First Aid, CPR/AED, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Mandated Reporter, and Coaches Safety Training. The successful candidate must also complete all screenings required by SVUSD. These include a fingerprint and background check and tuberculosis test.


Generally, practices are held Monday through Friday afternoons/evenings and Saturday mornings. This position reports to the Head Varsity Girls Swimming Coach. The position begins February 1, 2019. Compensation is approximately $3087.00 for the season (Jan. 28-May 11). Additional compensation may be available for coaching swimming camps in the off-season.


Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and instruct proper methods of swimming in an energizing, fun, safe, and educational practice setting for all swimmers.
  • Support athletes in achieving their swimming-related goals.
  • Administer an effective strength training program.
  • Observe and adjust approach to support all swimmers’ capabilities and physical conditions.
  • Manage administrative duties related to the JV/Open squad to include: attendance records, JV/Open squad communications, JV/Open squad accident and alternative transportation reports, and Open squad meet entries.
  • Celebrate achievements of the entire team and individual athlete’s personal goals, including mastering specific skills and stoke(s).
  • Supervise and coordinate Open squad participation at swim meets.
  • Maintain active surveillance of athletes and training areas.
  • Know and follow emergency, school, and district protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
