Full Time Coordinator of Aquatics

Job Summary:

The Coordinator of Aquatics is a full-time staff member responsible for the administration of a comprehensive Aquatics program, which includes, but is not limited to, supervision of student lifeguards and supervisory staff, swimming and diving meets, events, certification programs, and risk management protocols in multiple campus locations for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Additionally, this position will provide leadership by conducting student trainings, facility scheduling, maintaining certifications, and budget planning. This individual works directly with professional staff, and student staff to coordinate activities, independently assess problems, and develop solutions. Primary work hours will be Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, and flexibility to work nights and/or weekends when needed is required.


Manages a comprehensive recreation program. Oversees and performs activities including policy development and enforcement, program development and expansion, participant eligibility, and/or risk management. May supervise staff.

  • 45% May assist with the implementation of the personnel resource allocation plan including hiring, training, supervision, and resolution of personnel issues
  • 5% Assists with the management of applicable software systems for program registration, sport management, and participation data
  • 10% May assist with monitoring and auditing the unit budget
  • 10% Schedules logistics and secures resources to support the operational plans of the program
  • 10% Implements risk management procedures and ensures adherence to institution and divisional policies
  • 10% Assists in coordinating equipment setup and operation, pool configuration, and staffing for all events and reservations in the Nick Soderholm Family Aquatic Center, Bakke Cove Pool, and Memorial Union Swim Pier.
  • 10% Collaborates with Rec Well professional staff and campus partners to maintain a comprehensive schedule of activities in the aquatic facilities.

Bachelor’s Degree

Master’s Degree in Sports/Recreation Management, Physical Education, Exercise Science, or a related field


– A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in aquatic staff supervision or pool operations
– Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
– Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
– Committed to promoting a positive, respectful, socially just, work and learning environment
– Experience leading large lifeguard staff trainings across multiple locations
– Experience leading American Red Cross Lifeguarding or recertification courses

Preferred, but not necessary:
– Experience working in a collegiate recreation setting

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $48,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary range for this position is $48,000 up to $54,000 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
