Full Time Director of Aquatics

Position Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a lifeguard, pool supervisor, swimming pool maintenance and operations preferred however commensurate years of experience in aquatics facilities management will be considered
  • First Aid, American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue and Infant, Child & Adult CPR/AED certificate, required
  • Mandatory Reporter Child/Dependent Adult Abuse training, required 
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification, required
  • Certified Pool Operator License required or willing to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification required or willing to obtain

Performance Criteria:

  • Handle day-to-day operation, maintenance, and administration of the District’s aquatic facility including establishing procedures for access, opening/closing, staffing, emergency response, and program specific needs 
  • Coordinate with district-wide pool user groups to ensure that the needs of all groups are met. This includes specific tasks such as managing pool schedule, facilitating information sharing, navigating conflict, and problem solving
  • Establish and enforce facility rules appropriate for pool use by all user groups.
  • Establishes, ensures, & maintains that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.
  • Facilitate ongoing program review of program efficiency & facility effectiveness.
  • Oversees the recruitment, hiring, mentoring, induction, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of aquatics staff.
  • Coordinate with district curriculum administrators and specific school locations to ensure a positive student aquatic learning experience
  • Manage aquatics facility & program budget as well as develop short-term and long-term facility needs including preventative maintenance
  • Coordinate with the operations department to establish procedures for testing, monitoring/recording, reporting, and responding to pool issues to ensure that the pool remains open and available to user groups and meets state licensing requirements.
  • Establish procedures for maintaining appropriate and/or necessary records. Examples could include pool condition and maintenance, chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, participation and usage, certifications, and incident reporting.
  • Oversee and maintain inventory and purchases of pool equipment and supplies.
  • Develop a short-term & long-term strategic plan for the indoor pool facility and program offerings with a growth mindset for future opportunities utilizing the pool facility for a varied offering of programs.
  • Attend all required meetings, trainings, and professional development to assist in continued quality delivery of programs, safe facilities and/or supervision of staff
  • Coordinates or conducts training of staff in water safety, first aid, CPR and emergency response plans; ensures that all certifications of staff are maintained. Ensures high program standards are followed; provides regular in-service training to staff as needed.

Position is estimated to begin work on July 1, 2023.

Starting pay rate: $99,213
