Starting Pay Rate: $17.50 hourly. Head lifeguard must be 16 years of age or older. 

Assist in the leadership and staffing for a variety of programs at the Brighton Recreation Center and outdoor pool. Must be able to work flexible hours:  nights, weekends and holidays.  Acts as the Manager in the absence of the Pool Manager(s). This position must work well in group setting/peers and with the public, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton’s mission and values.

Works under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator and Pool Manager(s).  The Head Lifeguard supervises other Lifeguard staff and acts as the Manager in the absence of the Pool Manager(s).


  • Supervises lifeguards and manages aquatic facility operations during shift as designated.
  • Performs general maintenance duties including those associated with chemical readings and adjustments.
  • Patrols pool area to enforce safety rules and regulations.  Administers CPR/First Aid as needed.
  • Serves as a swim instructor or lifeguard in regular rotation.
  • Determines lifeguard station assignment, rotation intervals, checks chemicals, maintains daily records and facility checks, coordinates emergency procedure, motivates and delegates scheduled maintenance or assignments and tasks to fellow lifeguards, documents and reports to the Aquatics Coordinator or Pool Manager(s) all late or non-attending staff, as well as poor or outstanding performance of lifeguards.
  • Protects the safety and well being of each person using the Brighton Aquatic facilities.  Adheres to all safety protocols and laws for chemical handling.
  • Completes annual blood borne pathogen training.  Attends Mandatory In-service Training and Staff Meetings.
  • Maintains a clean facility.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations.
  • Provide good customer service by assisting patrons with problems or concerns.

Knowledge of:

  • All facets of the aquatics program including, facilities, maintenance and other related areas, and supervision of the aquatic staff.
  • Pool chemistry.

Ability to:

  • Maintain discipline and orderly conduct among patrons.
  • Facilitate effective communications and customer service.
  • Take charge in an emergency situation.
  • Motivate and delegate assignments and tasks to lifeguards.

Must hold a current Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid certificates.
WSI preferred or willing to be certified within 6 months of hire.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.
