DEFINITION

Provides leadership, instruction and hands-on development to members of the Master’s swim program. Creates and implements all training sessions, provides organizational input on practice structure, attends swim meets and other functions as assigned. This position will provide excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton’s mission and values.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator and Pool Manager(s).

 

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Organizes and administers all coaching responsibilities for the Master’s swim program.

 

Develops positive relationships with program participants, motivating students, and instructing athletic technique.

Demonstrates detailed knowledge of competitive swim techniques and delivers effective workouts to implement these skills in a safe, healthy manner.

 

Instructs program participants on the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.

 

Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as needed.

 

Assesses swimmer’s skills, monitors students during practice, and uses their knowledge to create level appropriate lesson plans.

 

Is held accountable for the safety of program participants and follows established procedures in the event of an injury.

 

Models sports-like behavior and maintains positive and appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators.

 

May supervise assistant coaches.

May be asked to provide coverage for swim lessons, private lessons or CARA swim team.

 

Maintains a basic knowledge of all program areas, and refers program participants to appropriate resources

Monitors participation in the program and provides organizational input on practice structure

Performs other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training:

Must have a minimum of 3 years competitive swim experience. Experience coaching adults or a Master’s swim team is preferred. USMS Level 2 (or above) Coaching certification is preferred.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Should be able to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR certification within six (6) months of hire date.

 

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
