Here’s a summary of responsibilities:

Manage the efficient and effective operation of the Aquatics Center and Aquatics Department.  Oversee the Aquatics team responsible for the day-to-day operation of the bodies of water at the CSOPTC: indoor pool, outdoor pool, and Sport Medicine hot and cold plunges. Manage departmental budget. Coordinate all safety trainings and certifications for Aquatics team members, as well as all policy and implementation for Aquatics department. Manage all customers (community, short term and resident programs, and staff) with credentialed facility access. The Aquatics Manager will serve as a key member of the Colorado Springs Olympic & Paralympic Training Center (CSOPTC) leadership team.

Here’s how you’ll have an impact:

  • Develop and enforce all Aquatics Center policies, rules, and operating procedures. Supervise facility activities and assure facility functions are in compliance with established policies.  Exhibit strong customer service, including monitoring and maintaining the Aquatic Center Customer survey.
  • Serve as the head Certified Pool Operator (CPO) by leading the CPO team in developing and maintaining the routine schedule of maintenance in all bodies of water at CSOPTC. Repair simple leaks and monitor chemical levels, clarity of water, temperature levels, safety and sanitization of all bodies of water.  Teach and mentor CPOs as they join the team.
  • Supervise and provide overall direction and leadership to the Aquatics team members, to include staff selection, staff schedule alignment with budget and guest volume, staff development, coaching, mentoring, ongoing evaluation, performance reviews, and succession plan design.
  • Work directly with OPTC Scheduling, OPTC Operations, coaches, and NGBs to approve all annual Aquatics requests, including resident and short-term programs, staff, and community users.
  • Create, implement, and maintain accurate training manuals for team members to include all department policies regarding staff conduct, customer service, safety, emergency planning, and equipment set-up. Coordinate and instruct monthly in-service training for team. In-service training should include topics such as pool safety, lifeguarding skills, CPR, emergency oxygen, First Aid skills, team policies, customer service, team building, and leadership.
  • Manage operational budget for Aquatics business unit. Identify and address current and future needs for both areas.
  • Plan for and maintain quadrennial facility improvement plan to maintain world-class status of the CSOPTC Aquatics Center. Oversee all capital and operational purchases. Make recommendations to the CSOPTC Senior Director for implementation as budget allows. Oversee OPTC Deferred Maintenance (DM) Budget for Aquatics. Work directly with CSOPTC Senior Director and Facilities Department to develop inventory, schedule project prioritization for bodies of water, and manage DM budget on quarterly basis.
  • Be an expert in technical aspects of Aquatics Department, including filming, towing, swim meet equipment, and other services provided by the Aquatics Center. Teach and guide Aquatics staff to be proficient in these areas. Troubleshoot and communicate with contractors and vendors when Aquatics Center equipment is faulty or broken.
  • Utilize various USOPC software to process invoices, route contracts, generate expense reports, perform HR-related duties, and pull reports related to Aquatics.

Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be effective:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Current Certified Pool Operator’s (CPO) Certificate
  • Current Aquatics Facility Operator’s (AFO) Certificate or ability to obtain in a reasonable amount of time from start date
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • 5+ years as a Certified Pool Operator
  • 3+ years of supervising staff
  • 3+ years of lifeguarding experience
  • 3+ years of experience with technical and mechanical requirements of aquatics facility operation to include timing systems, sound systems, and training aids

Here are some things that will make you super competitive for this role:

  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certificate and CPR for the Professional Rescuer preferred
  • Prior budget management experience preferred

Here’s where you’ll work:

  • This is a hub-based role that will regularly work from the Colorado Springs Olympic & Paralympic Training Center

Here’s some more information you need to know:

  • Hiring Pay Range: $55,567 – $65,000 per year
  • This is a full-time, exempt, positions intended to work 40 hours per week
  • Bonus:  This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program at a 15% target. This program is subject to change or elimination by the USOPC at any time at its sole discretion.
