HIRING RATE:  $12.00 Hourly
FULL SALARY RANGE:   $12.00 – $15.16 Hourly

Under the direction and supervision of the Learn to Swim Coordinator and Water Safety Instructors, assists in conducting American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim programs.  Other duties may include providing customer service and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.  This position does not provide direction to other employees.

 

Essential Functions
 

The information listed below is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of this position.

  • Assist Water Safety Instructor in conducting swim lessons
  • Help to instruct courses for all age groups and to lead and conduct preschool classes
  • Will be responsible for the safety and well being of participants in their care.

 

Job Requirements
 

Education and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Less than high school or equivalency with no prior relevant work experience
Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age
  • Must have swimming skills equivalent to American Red Cross Level Four (demonstrate six major stokes for 15 to 25 yards)
  • First Aid/CPR certification  or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment

Work Schedule
Applicants must be willing/able to work the following schedule (subject to change):

  • SCHOOL YEAR: Swim lessons are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-8:15pm. Additional lessons occur on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings.
  • SUMMER: Swim lessons are Monday through Thursday mornings (8am-1pm) and evenings (5pm-8:15pm). Additional lessons occur on Saturday mornings and occasionally on Friday evenings.

Overall Physical Strength Demands:

  • Medium – Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.

Reading
Basic – Ability to recognize meaning of common two- or three-syllable words. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.Math
