Job Description

Resident Camp runs from 6/8-8/11.

The Waterfront Director develops and implements programs activities at pool and lake including swimming, canoeing, and water programs. Manages all aspects of the pool operations while supervising waterfront staff and organizes/schedules overall aquatics programs. Maintain pool, shower house, and lakefront to ensure that camp meets aquatic standards.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Assist Camp Director in training and assigning the entire camp staff
  • Assist Camp Director in planning and carrying out the budget and business operations
  • Assist Camp Director in developing and enforcing procedures, routines and practices for the camp operation, which conform to Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Girl Scouts of north East Ohio, and the American Camp Association standards.
  • Work with Camp Director to plan all aspects of summer program
  • Supervises work of unit leaders, coordinate daily camp activities and unit schedules
  • Ensure Unit Leaders and Unit Counselors enforce health and safety regulations
  • Train staff in Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) programming
  • Responsible for informing and guiding staff of rules, program plans, and solves problems during girls’ stay at camp
  • Report all incident/accidents to Camp Director immediately
  • Supervise and direct all aspects of resident camp programs when Camp Director is not available
  • Keep program records and evaluations, makes reports of programs
  • Responsible for checking all site conditions to ensure they are in good working order and report any problems to the correct person
  • Helps the kitchen staff to supervise the Kitchen Aides
  • Responsible for completing and returning all records to the Camp Director
  • Assist Camp Director in evaluating current season and help make recommendations for next season
  • Maintain Girl Scouts of the USA, Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, and the American Camp Association standards at all times
  • As a member of Girl Scouts of the USA, ensure that diversity and pluralism is embraced and incorporated into the work
  • Upholds the council customer service policy and strives to ensure that Girl Scouts of North East Ohio customers receive superior service
  • Performs other duties as assigned to promote the successful implantation of Girl Scouts of North East Ohio’s goals/objectives
  • Responsible for the welfare, safety, and cleanliness of each individual and camper in unit. Follows and enforces all recommended health guidelines, including handwashing and cleaning/sanitizing as needed.
Requirements

o Minimum age 21

o Training and experience in waterfront activities and management

o Currently lifeguard or swim instructor certified from a nationally recognized body

o Ability to schedule and supervise staff

o Good organizational skills

o Successful experience in planning, coordinating, and implementing all aspects of outdoor living and activity experiences with camp programs

o Experience in administrative or supervisory capacity (preferably in organized camp)

o Knowledge of girl led programming in relationship to programming implementation preferred

o Demonstrated ability to successfully handle conflict resolution at all levels with a variety of people, including external customers

o Ability to pay close attention to detail and maintain confidentiality

o Computer literacy and technical knowledge of computer software programs such as Word, Publisher, Excel, and the Internet

o Ability to communicate the written and spoken word with tact, diplomacy, and/or authority when necessary

o Well disciplined, able to meet deadlines

o Self-starter

o Able to work under pressure of many priorities and deadlines

o Ability to work well as a part of a team

o Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred

o Ability to meet schedule requirements, including flexible work week, early hours, nights, and weekends
