Kids jump in to water safety camp
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – More than 100 kids are getting the opportunity to learn how to swim this week thanks to a water safety camp hosted in part by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Green Bay.The organization partnered with the Zac Foundation — a Connecticut-based water safety program — and local emergency responders to teach 5- to 9-year-olds about water safety. The four-day long camp includes swimming classes at a YMCA and opportunities for kids to interact with first responders.”Drowning is actually one of the leading causes of death for kids in these younger ages and the kids that we’re seeing here today, and it’s really important for them to know that water can be a fun environment to be in and around, but they need to know how to be safe in those areas,” Stephanie Nespoli, director of communications for the local Boys & Girls Club, said.
