General Job Description: Lifeguards and swimming instructors work under the Head guards and management staff, and are responsible for the safety of patrons in and around the pool at all times as well as providing safe and thorough instruction to all levels of students enrolled in the LGS Recreation swim lesson program. In addition, they are responsible for providing a friendly environment at the pool facility as well as its overall cleanliness. They will be required to perform a variety of tasks responsibly and professionally.Location: Los Gatos High School

CURRENT CERTIFICATIONS!ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas.Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid/CPR.Maintain order in swimming areas.Inspect facilities for cleanliness and potential hazards.Perform other duties as needed at request of Aquatics Supervisor and Pool Manager
MUST BE AVAILABLE AT LEAST 3 DAYS PER WEEK 2PM-8PMEarly morning and weekend availability highly desired!
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESArrive at work on time and in proper uniform (see uniform requirements).Know and enforce the pool rules consistently and fairly.Complete and sign their time sheet on time.Check and monitor the schedule to ensure that they arrive on time to each of your shifts (this issolely their responsibility).Go through the proper procedure to find a sub if they are ill or cannot work a shift.Leave a lesson plan for your substitute when you will not be teaching. You may only miss twodays in each session so students don’t have multiple teachers.Assist patrons with problems or concerns in a prompt and professional manner.Immediately inform the Head Lifeguard on duty of any problems with patrons or staff thatcannot be immediately resolved.Know the emergency action plan, how to activate it, and their role in it.Assist with accidents and injuries as directed and complete proper incident and accidentreports in detail.Practice and maintain all certification skills and be able to pass skill tests at any time during theseason.Provide quality instruction and positive and continual feedback to students.Communicate with swim lesson parents (at least once during session).Evaluate swim lesson participants and complete all cards before the start of class on the lastday of the session.Ensure a professional appearance of the facility and themselves at all times. This includeskeeping the pool area, guard office, and locker rooms clean and stocked.Attend all in‐service trainings.Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. MUST have current certificates in CPR for the professional rescuer, First Aid for the professionalrescuer, and Lifeguard Training. Must possess strong swimming skills. Ability to work positively with parents and children in a community aquatics setting.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTSPossess a current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aide and CPR/AED forthe Professional Rescuer Certification.Swim instructors must possess a current Water Safety Instructor certification.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must bemet by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
