Maters Swimming Coach Skaneateles YMCA and Community Center – Skaneateles, NY Part-timeGeneral Functions: Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Masters Swim Team Coach oversees the operation of the swim team. This is a part-time, year round coaching position.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:To maintain the smooth operation of the swim team.Prepare written workouts in advanceTake attendance of all groupsProvide swimmers with technical feedbackTo work with the Aquatic Director to organize practice and complete all related administrative functions.To incorporate the YMCA mission and core values into the swim team program.To attend any trainings as recommended by the Aquatic Director.Knowledge or ability to use ‘Team Unify & ‘ software*Program Development and PromotionThe Skaneateles YMCA Masters Swim Team is operated in a safe, effective manner.Participants learn new skills through a high quality program which promotes character development.Swim team coaches exemplify YMCA values.Participate in communication: web site, newsletters, meet information etc.*Collaborative RelationshipsRelationships include identifying and develop relationships and working directly with community service organizations and government agencies with which the YMCA can collaborate to strengthen and expand programs and services.Develops and maintains positive relationships with members, staff and volunteers and provides motivational support and guidance to swimmers.*Experience and Education:Must possess or have the ability to obtain certifications in First Aid, CPR, Principles of YMCA Competitive swimming and Diving, and lifeguarding or Safety Training for swim coaches.Must have minimum two years previous coaching experience and knowledge to effectively administer the swim team.Must have an understanding of the YMCA mission and values and be prepared to implement them into the swim team program.Must possess excellent human relations skills and the ability to work effectively with youth, parents, volunteers, coaches and the general public.Must possess effective written and oral communication skills to maintain the smooth operation of the swim team.Must have the ability to make independent decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the Skaneateles YMCA.The ability to observe confidentiality.*Trainings & Certifications:Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification; obtain lifeguard certification within 60 days.Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer certification.Current Emergency Oxygen Administration certification.Current First Aid certification.YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming within 6 months.YMCA Swim Coach or Red Cross Swim Coach and Safety within 6 months*Physical Demands:Ability to frequently sit, use his/her hands and fingers, stand, typing, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel and climb a minimum of two flights of stairs multiple times per day. Occasionally required to lift and/or carry and move up to forty pounds. Specific vision abilities required close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Hear noises and distress signals in the Aquatic environment with background noise and perform all needed rescues skills. Ability to occasionally run in case of an emergency.*Salary and Benefits: This is a part-time, hourly position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
