OCEANSIDE — The City Council gave the initial OK on Dec. 7 for El Corazon Park aquatic center to be built immediately next to the senior center.The location is a detour from the park Specific Plan that envisions the swim complex on the opposite west end of the 465-acre park.The relocation of the aquatic center provides ready infrastructure, which allows the facility to be built sooner.The site is also geologically sound and manageable to grade.The park sits on land that was once used for mining operations.The land presents numerous building challenges, including bedrock 35 feet below ground level and an old pond.The planned aquatic center will occupy 2.2 acres, and include a competition length pool, instructional pool, kids splash pad and poolside bleachers. ….READ MORE
