Vulcan Avenue, Encinitas, CaliforniaDepartment: Fire & Marine Safety Print Job Information | Apply  The Position  Benefits  Supplemental Questions Safeguard the public throughout the beach and open ocean waters; detect and rescue persons or vessels in distress; enforce beach regulations; provide assistance to beach users; teach ocean rescue techniques, beach first aid, lifeguard communications and use of rescue boards/equipment to children in the Junior Lifeguard Program; perform all related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to):Patrol and perform preventative actions, rescues, and safety interventions; render aid and medical assistance; issue water safety warnings; operate and maintain rescue equipment; advise the public of laws, rules, regulations, and safety practices governing beach use; respond to call outs for beach and other emergencies and perform related duties and responsibilities. Essential duties require the strenuous physical activities and skills associated with open water lifeguarding. The work environment includes possible exposure to cold, heat, chemical, biological, environmental and mechanical hazards. Candidates must have the ability to travel to different sites and locations. Minimum Qualifications:Required to test for Lifeguard:Certificate of completion, or proof of current enrollment in “Intro to Open Water Lifeguarding /Lifeguard Academy” is requiredCompleted City applicationCandidates must be at least 18 years of age at time of testingValid  Driver’s License or picture ID at time of testingRequired to be hired as a Lifeguard:In addition to the above, the following certifications must be completed and submitted to Human Resources. Candidates who fail to do so will be required to go through the entire try out and interview process again.Certificate of completion of an Open Water Lifeguard Course approved by the USLAEmergency Response Certification OR Emergency Medical  Technician (EMT)  CertificateCPR /AED for the Professional Rescuer, or Healthcare ProviderA completed City application with required attachments must be submitted electronically. Paper copies of certifications and paper applications will not be accepted. Applicants failing to submit the required documents prior to the testing will not be allowed to test.   Application Process and Deadline:Applications and required certifications must be received electronically though NEOGOV by 12:00 PM (noon) the day prior to testing. Applications will be considered incomplete until all required documents and certifications are received.
