Responsible for the overall safety of the guests at the Bob Burger Recreation Center, the Great Outdoors Waterpark, Festival Plaza, and Waneka Lake. Essential Functions The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:Under the direction of the Aquatics Operations Manager, manages staff in the assigned aquatic area ensuring the appropriate number of lifeguards are present, paying close attention to shifts in the use of the aquatics area and responding appropriately with adequate staff to maintain overall safety of the patrons..Oversees aquatic operations, programs and rentals of the aquatic areas at the Bob Burger Recreation Center.Ensures safety, staff supervision, guest services, aquatics programming, administration and general maintenance and cleanliness of the aquatic areas. Assist in the overall construction planning and running of the Great Outdoors Waterpark.Assist in the development of multi generational aquatic programs and assists with swim lesson planning, scheduling and conducting swim lessons.Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings.Provide excellent customer service.Handle customer concerns or problems in a friendly and professional manner.Enforce all City policies, pool rules, and regulations involving the operation of the pool .Responsible for setting a good example for all aquatic employees regarding conduct, dress and manners.Conduct routine safety checks of equipment and staff; ensure all paperwork, i.e., course records, accident reports, etc., are completed accurately and in a timely manner.Respond quickly to emergencies; ability to remain composed in emergency situations, use sound judgment and work effectively with guests and other recreation staff under stressful circumstances.Continuously scan pools, be able to perform rescues and administer First Aid according to standards..Available to support emergency repairs after hours; able to flex-schedule to accommodate irregular work schedule in response to repairs, maintenance and other situations that might occur.Perform the duties of the Aquatics Operations Manager in their absence.Responsible for the supervision of aquatics areaAssist with maintenance, opening, and closing of seasonal facilities, including the Great Outdoors Waterpark and bath house, Waneka Lake Boat House, and Festival Plaza.Able to work effectively with contractors and vendors to maintain the mechanical integrity of the aquatics equipment.Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, ordinances and policies.Maintains compliance with these regulations and reporting requirements. Assist Aquatic Operations Manager in supervising part-time staff, conducting regular staff meetings, in-service trainings and skills checks.Oversees point of sale operations; concession management; open water experience; and small craft maintenance and use at the Waneka Lake Boathouse.Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE: CPR/AED and First Aid; knowledge of departmental rules concerning the area in which assigned; and of lifeguard philosophies, policies and procedures; teaching methods and techniques. Knowledge of mechanics of pool operations, as well as aquatics planning, programming and implementing aquatic programs, point of sale operations and concessions management.
SKILL: Provide excellent customer service, handle customers concerns or problems in a friendly or professional manner. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated skill in operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
ABILITY: Prevent accidents; remain calm in emergency situations; work with little or no supervision; analyze and correct facility safety hazards; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships. Plan, organize, instruct and supervise the assigned programs, facilities and staff. Demonstrated ability to appropriately adapt to changes in the workplace including scheduling flexibility, unforeseen mechanical difficulties, interruptions from patrons, and employees. Demonstrate all lifeguard skills and extensive knowledge of aquatics operations, swim lesson programs, water fitness programs and aquatic programs.
EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS: TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree required, Certified Lifeguard preferred with the ability to obtain within 90 days, Certified Pool Operator, Aquatic Facility Operator, Lifeguard Instructor certification and Swim Lesson Instructor preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 year’s aquatic experience including operating aquatics filtration systems, including experience at a seasonal facility required.
