Swim Team Coach YMCA of Middle Tennessee Brentwood, TN $8.88 – $9.88 an hour – Part-time
Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Swim Team Coach is responsible for the instruction, leadership, supervision, control, and safety of all swim team participants. The Swim Team Coach is responsible for the appearance, presentation, and working order of all equipment used by the swim team. It is the Swim Team Coach’s responsibility to observe and direct all swim team participants, and to provide feedback and appropriate correction as instructed or included in the job description. Essential Functions:Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility Ensure safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participants Report to work on time, in uniform and at position when shift begins Check area for hazardous conditions when you arrive; prevent accidents and avoid dangerous situations; report any problems to the lifeguard on duty Know, adhere to, and enforce all pool, slide, diving board rules, and all YMCA rules and policies among swim team participants Ensure proper and timely set ups and clean ups before and after sessions, and store all instructional equipment in the proper locations Recruit and lead parent volunteers for the organization, set up, management, and break down of swim meets, and ensure that trainings are attended as necessary Coach all sessions according to the standards and guidelines set by the YMCA Swimming Coach program Attend all swim meets, home and away; complete all paperwork and forms required for each swim meet Focus on swim team participants at all times-socializing is not allowed; do not leave participants unattended Provide verbal feedback to each participant consistently throughout each session; communicate regularly with each participant and/or the participant’s parent(s) about the performance, progress, goals, and needs of the participant Complete all required records and reports, including rosters, attendance records, and accident/incident reports Build relationships and interact with members Attend staff meetings and training sessions Minimum Requirements Qualifications:Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our Centers Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends Minimum 18 years of age High school diploma or equivalent preferred Coaching experience and YSL Stroke Mechanics preferred Demonstrate Intermediate swimming ability Ellis & Associates lifeguard license preferred Certifications Required:Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training Within two weeks of hire or before 1st shift with children (whichever comes first): Basic CPR/ First Aid/ AED and Emergency Oxygen Information Security and Sensitivity Conditions:This position requires elevated security permissions (administrative) to one or more systems which store or maintain sensitive and/or confidential information This position requires access to sensitive and confidential information All system activity performed by individuals working in this position is subject to periodic system audits This position may be subjected to privileged information such as organization changes, staffing changes, security events or other sensitive communications and is expected to protect and keep sensitive or confidential communications and/or information private Failure to comply with any security and/or sensitivity related duties as defined in this section will result in disciplinary action which may include termination While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
