Minimum Hourly Rate:$14.07 Primary Objective of Position:Coach practices and work with adult swimmers of various ages and abilities. Job Responsibilities:1. Teach adult swimmers of all ages and abilities. 2. Run workouts without supervision. 3. Attend Minnetonka Aquatics meets and events as needed. 4. Maintain a high level of responsibility and professionalism. Job Qualifications: 1. Extensive background in competitive swimming. 2. Experience as a swim coach for at least 2 years. 3. Experience with triathlon and open water swimming (preferred). 4. Evidence of positive interpersonal skills; ability to relate well to children and adults. 5. Current American Red Cross Certifications in First Aid, CPR, Swim Coaches Safety Training (preferred). 6. Demonstrated leadership and public relations skills. 7. The Beautiful Laguna Beach Community Pool and its staff is in need of an enthusiastic, teamwork inspired leader!Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Aquatics Coordinator plans, implements and supervises activities within the City’s established aquatics programs and manages the day to day operation of this community and school district facility.  The Aquatics Coordinator supervises a year-round staff of approximately 20, which in summer months grows to nearly 40 individuals. Strong, supportive leadership skills are essential for success in this position. A City online application and a resume must be submitted by the filing deadline, Monday, December 12, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. The selection process will include a structured panel interview, and may include other test components designed to predict a candidate’s success in this position.The appointing authority will further review the job related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions.The selected candidate must successfully pass a police background check with the Laguna Beach Police Department, a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice, and a pre-placement physical and drug test.The general probationary period for all employees in one year.

Examples of Duties:In Detail:This position plans, coordinates, evaluates, and supervises aquatics program activities and related special events; exercises independent judgment and decision making to adapt and modify methods and standards to meet variations in position objectives; performs administrative work which may include, but is not limited to the following: operates general office equipment; prepares program schedules, maintenance schedules, and program activity reports; maintains appropriate records; maintains and issues equipment and supplies to aquatics personnel; assists in budget preparation and monitors specified budget expenditures; prepares program promotional and evaluation materials; attends related meetings, conferences and seminars as assigned; recruits community members and volunteers for program participation; recommends changes or revisions for program improvement; communicates program information and enforces rules and regulations to ensure the safety and welfare of participants; selects, assigns, supervises, evaluates, and trains assigned personnel; performs physical work which may include, but is not limited to:  cleaning pool and equipment areas and setting up, assembling, and taking down equipment for aquatics and special events; officiates at aquatic events and tournaments and resolves disputes regarding rulings of swim coaches; performs lifeguard duties.Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Typical Qualifications:Any combination demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying.  A typical combination is as follows: Education/Experience:  A High School Diploma or G.E.D is required.  At least sixty (60) units of college level coursework in Recreation Administration, Aquatics, Physical Education or a closely related field, or, recent paid or volunteer experience at a lead or supervisory level in aquatics program development, and swimming pool maintenance programs and implementation is required.Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.

License/Certificate Requirements:   The incumbent must possess and maintain:   First Aid Certificate, Certification as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor, CPR Card, Pool Operator Certification.  First Aid Instructor and CPR Instructor certifications are desirable. Must also possess and maintain a California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Supplemental Information:Also
