The Director of Aquatics will oversee all day to day operations of all indoor and outdoor pool facilities of the Department of Recreational Sports including: risk management, pool hours, pool maintenance, chemical treatments, scheduling, lifeguard personnel, equipment and pool policies. Oversee all programming as well as scheduling, preparing, and hosting high profile swimming and diving meets. This person will supervise two professional staff, a graduate assistant, and 120 part time student staff and is responsible for the professional development and training of full time and student aquatic staff. Responsible for the management and administration of the aquatic budget. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Six years pool management experience with at least 2 years of experience hosting swim and dive meets. Preferred Education and Experience Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, or related field. Ten years multiple pool management operations with 5 years hosting high visibility swim and dive meets such as Division I Conference Championships, USA National Championships, NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, etc.. Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator license. Lifeguard Training & First Aid, CPR – AED for Lifeguards, American Red Cross or Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor certification. Water Safety Instructor Preferred Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations Water Safety Instructor Trainer, American Red Cross or Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, SCUBA management; Registry of Collegiate Recreational Sports Professionals, NSPF or AFO Instructor. Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with staff. The ability to troubleshoot and resolve timing system issues. The ability to troubleshoot and resolve water balance and filtration problems. The ability to work with college students, professors, coaches, swim meet officials, local government, and elite athletes. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Other Requirements or Other Factors Detailed Job Duties Duties Performed Oversee all day-to-day operations of the 4 indoor pools, 1 outdoor pool, and 2 spas, i.e. policies and procedures, coordinating facility use between classes, team practices, programs, events, and recreational users; pool personnel, pool cleaning, water balance and filtration, equipment use, and facility hours, etc. Duties Performed Host major and national swim meets, i.e. Men’s & Women’s SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, Men’s & Women’s NCAA Division I Swimming Championships, High School Invitational and District Meets, Junior Nationals Age Group Swim Championships, including timing systems, media, spectators, facility security, equipment and personnel needs, etc. Oversee all special event activities in the pool areas, e.g. intramural events, recreational programs such as SCUBA and adult learn to swim. Duties Performed The Assistant Director Aquatics will supervise and evaluate two professional staff, a graduate assistant, and over 120 part time staff. Responsible for the daily scheduling, coaching, and development of the aquatics staff including in service training. Duties Performed Oversee the water balance, temperatures, and air quality levels of the pools including all chemical testing procedures and documentation. Develop and administer the risk management policies for all pool areas. Develop rules and regulations for facility usage. Establish procedures and oversee execution of maintenance needs along with maintenance repair & replacement, coordinate all necessary work with all parties that will have to be involved including SSC Services personnel and contractors. Duties Performed Develop and administer the pool operations budget ($830,000 Revenue & $680,000 Expense). Duties Performed Other related duties: Assist other staff members with special events, meets, and programs. Maintain a positive relationship with other departments and personnel that will assist in the development, funding, promotions, and/or public relations of the department. Serve on national, university, divisional, and departmental committees as needed. Assist in establishing long and short term goals of the Department. Attend local, state and national workshops and conferences. Host and present at various recreational sports workshops.
