POSITION SUMMARY: The Water Safety Instructor III – Master’s Swim Coach is a team leader who motivates, teaches, and inspires adult swimmers (fitness, triathlete, competitive, and non-competitive) who are dedicated to improving their fitness through swimming; enforce Kroc Center Hawaii guidelines, pool and safety rules and Kroc Center Hawaii policies to maintain a safe environment and member and guest satisfaction. The Kroc Center Hawaii Water Safety Instructor III – Master’s Swim Coach will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. High School graduate or GED is required. 2. American Red Cross or Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training Certification, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescue, USA Master or USA Coach Certification. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 1. Swim lesson instruction and water exercise instruction. 2. Familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels and other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Create and implement a program that can meet the diverse needs of participants, namely competitive swimming (both pool and open water swimming), non-competitive physical fitness swimming, improvement of stroke technique, triathlon training, etc. 2. Know and understand the Kroc Center Hawaii Aquatics program, including classes, swimming levels, skills taught in each level, and the requirements for passing each level. 3. Evaluate students and recommend appropriate classes for their skill levels. 4. Provide corrective and positive feedback to students to ensure learning and a positive atmosphere. 5. Cover all materials required in a class. Complete student evaluations, reports and records. Maintain confidentiality of all information and documents received. 6. Have all instructional equipment ready before lessons begin and put all equipment away at the end of lessons. 7. Communicate regularly with participants and parents. 8. Recognize distressed swimmers and provide the necessary assistance. 9. Know, understand and enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations. 10. Never leave students unattended. 11. Maintain a positive rapport and image with students, members and guests. 12. Keep the facilities clean, including pool, pool area, and locker rooms. 13. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures. 14. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii. 15. Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings. 16. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance. $2,748 a month – Full-time, Part-time, TemporaryIndependently performs duties at a swimming pool to protect life, prevent accidents, and assist persons in distress; enforces pool safety regulations; conducts or participates in water safety instructions, swimming instructions, and other recreational aquatic programs; maintains pool and pool area; and performs other related duties as required. As need arises, positions available may be: Permanent Full-time/Part-time (Salary will be pro-rated for part-time) Temporary Full-time/Part-time (Salary will be pro-rated for part-time) Temporary appointments may lead to conversion to permanent appointments. Examples of Duties: Watches over patrons at a public swimming pool to protect life and prevent accidents.Rescues swimmers and assists others in distress.Provides first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as necessary.Enforces safety regulations and takes corrective action to ensure the safety of patrons.Warns parents or responsible adults not to leave young children unattended.Prepares daily log and reports describing accidents, first aid given, drowning or near drowning, and other unusual occurrences.Assists and participates in program planning and scheduling, and conducting and coordinating aquatic instructional and recreational activities.Maintains water quality standards and keeps a daily record of all information.Operates all machinery of the circulation/filtration system.Maintains proper chemical standards through the use of the automated chemical feed system; makes adjustments when needed.May be required to travel independently to attend swim meets or other events and regular meetings.Maintains pool, pool deck, buildings, locker rooms, spectator areas and walkways, and all surrounding areas to ensure a safe and healthy environment.Attends in-service training classes.Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualification Requirements: Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to: graduation from high school, andpossession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate, orother current equivalent certification,a current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor’s Certificate as applicable to the position, andability to travel independently to various geographic locations. This requirement may be fulfilled by the possession of a valid State of Hawai’i driver’s license (Class 3), a valid comparable driver’s license, or use of other means of transportation that meets position needs.Scan and attach certifications to your application. Ability to: Rescue persons from the water; administer first aid and CPR; recognize when ill or injured persons require professional medical care; prepare clear and concise operational and incident reports; enforce regulations; conduct and instruct aquatic classes and activities; deal tactfully and effectively with the public; and read and follow written instructions.
