When Do You Know It’s Time to Quit? – Swimming World Magazine

Commentary by Jason Tillotson, Swimming World College Intern. Swimming is a complicated sport. It is so pure, so natural and innate yet, at the same time, it can be tremendously complex. Swimming is nothing more than the games we all played as children on the playground. It is nothing more than “hey, I’ll race you to the slide and back” and whoever won, would be top-dog, head honcho, the real deal. However, like a clock, on the outside it may seem as simple as any other mundane exercise routine but on the inside, there are many moving parts, each affecting the other. Nothing stands alone, in a clock or in swimming.Everything has a reaction, everything is intertwined. The tiniest of mistakes, however meaningless they seem, add up to the hundredths and tenths swimmers try and eliminate each time they dive in. All the hours, staring at a stiff black line, diving into to a skin-piercingly cold pool all in attempts to shave hundredths of a second off a personal record or to beat a sworn nemesis from the opposition’s side of the deck.  Read More…

For more information about Agon, visit their website AgonSwim.com.Florida High School Swimming and Diving will conclude for the 2017 season this weekend with the 3A and 4A Championship meets. 3A action will be on Friday, followed by 4A action on Saturday.Last year‘s action was highlighted by two state records from Plant junior Morgan Tankersley. The Buchholz girls and Riverview boys were repeat state champions.GirlsMorgan Tankersley broke two state records, the 200 and 500 freestyles, at last year’s meet. Tankersley, now a Stanford commit, returns to those two events this year. Buchholz junior Isabel Ivey won’t make Tankersley’s path an easy one. Ivey was the 200 IM and 50 free state champ at last year’s 1A meet when she was a sophomore at Oak Hall. With her transfer to Buchholz, the defending champions are looking even stronger this year.  Read More

Position: Swim Team Coach Recreation & Community Services Department Salary Range: $17.00 to $20.00 per hour DOQ Part-Time, Temporary, Non-Benefited position Schedule: Actual work schedule to be determined through mutual agreement with supervisor. Employee may be required to work mornings, evenings, and weekends. The Position: The City of Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced Swim Team Coach for Campbell Wave Swim Team Senior Group at the Campbell Community Center. Responsibilities: This position reports to the Aquatics Recreation Specialist and is responsible for swim team coordination with Aquatics Recreation Specialist. This position prepares and implements work-outs; tracks and encourages team enrollment; maintains various records; organizes and attends swim meets; evaluates stroke technique; assists with budget preparation; has thorough knowledge of emergency response protocol, risk management and emergency care; complies and enforces all City of Campbell and Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department policies and procedures. The essential functions of employment include: Assistance in developing, organizing and supervising daily operations and practices; assistance in evaluating Campbell Wave swim team program; documentation including daily participant attendance; planning, execution and evaluation of swim meet participation; professional interaction and effective communication with children, swimmers and the general public. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum age at time of hire is 18 years old Two (2) or more years of swim coaching experience Valid California Driver’s license Current CPR certification Safety Training for Swim Coaches or Lifeguard Training certification TB Clearance Fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice background check).
